For some reason a lot of people have been coming here lately. Whoever you are, thanks for visiting. The comic strip is finished (you can read it all here: Part 1 and Part 2) but I have some plans in the works for new comics soon. I live in South Korea now and still don't own a computer or scanner, but I'll find a way.

Also, go USA basketball in Beijing. The US could fail at every other event and I'd be fine as long as we win the gold in basketball.

What did I do last night? I went to Kanye West's Glow in the Dark tour! I went with my sister Megan and we had pretty great seats. Lupe Fiasco was there and I love him. NERD was good and Rihanna was OK I guess. Kanye of course was stupendous.

New comics coming tomorrow. In the meantime I hope everyone liked my guest comics. Other than comics I've spent the last few weeks on school junk.

-I loved this New York Times Magazine feature on Chris Matthews. The part about Matthews' obsession with Tim Russert is hilarious and reveals a lot about both men.

-I'm making my way through a few books, to varying degrees of success. I picked up "Clockers" because it's by Richard Price, who wrote for the Wire, which I believe to be the best television show of all time. "Clockers" is, unsurprisingly, a lot like the Wire, but in a good way. I'm also reading "Can't Stop, Won't Stop" by Jeff Chang. It's the best book I've ever read about the history of rap music. And finally, I'm trying to finish "Negro with a Hat" about Marcus Garvey, but it's slow and long so I'm not sure if I'll finish it before school ends.

-And of course I'm constantly watching the NBA Playoffs. I'm rooting for the Mavs, Hornets, Spurs and Celtics and rooting against the Suns, Pistons and Lakers.

I think that was my longest blog entry ever.

I know I linked to a Newsweek story about Michelle Obama last week, but this New Yorker profile is even better. I just like how real a person she is. First ladies during my lifetime have been horribly awful people, from Nancy Reagan's soulless corpse, Barbara Bush's aristocratic vileness, Hillary's cut-throat ambition and Laura Bush's Stepford Wife routine, they're all just bad. I'm as excited for Michelle Obama as I am for her husband.

I got caught up with other things so today's comic was a re-run. In better news, I have a lot of stuff coming out soon. I have a full page, full color comic in the Collegian's Valentines Day special issue. I think it's pretty good and I don't want to give it away yet, so I'll wait and post it when it comes out.

I also have a new 5 page story in this month's Wolf Boy (which can be found online here), the fantastic literary zine that I am privileged to be a part of. My good pal Dave Gilbert is the editor of Wolf Boy and he does a bang up job of putting it all together. He's an inspiration to us all. Here's a peek at my story from this month:

And finally, I'm still hard at work on my book. So far it's all been a lot of research and no drawing, but I did get to look through microfilm of 1930's Denver Posts, which was darn neat. At the rate I'm going, expect to see the finished book around 2019.

Here's the first strip for next year and an editorial that won't be published because the editors feel it could be misconstrued. Keep in mind that this is a paper that printed "Fuck Bush" in bold type on the editorial page, but won't run a comic about an issue (the Bradley Effect) that might determine who the next president will be. Why do I even bother?

The comic work is coming along slowly because I've been sick lately, although it has given me a chance to watch the first two seasons of "The Wire," which is amazing. But I promise new comics within the next week.

I just looked and I have 832 hits at this site. That's almost a thousand, and probably only 500 are from me! If we all try real hard and go here as much as possible I bet I can hit 1,000 by 2009. Hopefully this means:

-People are reading my comic strip.
-They are coming to the site and reading it when they miss it in the paper
-I am not wasting my time drawing comics that only I am reading

I am entering a cartoon contest and I need YOUR help!

It's the "Charles Schulz" award and the prize is $10,000. Besides the face that I want ten thousand dollars, I also need to win this award to boost my fragile ego. So here's where you come in, you handsome devil: the contest requires I send in 10-20 examples of how great my comic is. So if you love me, and you have some free time, take some time and look through all the comics from this year and last year and take note of up to 20 that you think would knock the judges' socks off. I think sometimes we don't really understand what freedom of speech really is. It's a very powerful tool that should never be given to cartoonists because they can't properly handle it. That's why it's important to censor their comics in the newspaper. Freedom of speech is only applicable when it comes to real speech, made by important high ranking editors. That's why I'm glad this comic got censored in the paper.

Everyone hates the Collegian, even more than usual, because of the "Fuck Bush" thing. I can see why it's caught on as a news story, but people are going crazy over it for nothing. Fuck Bush, fuck republicans, fuck everybody who's mad over a word when there's real shit to get mad about.

And I'm the one who got a pay cut because of it. If anyone should be mad it's me.

I feel like I'm finally hitting a groove with this comic. The beginning of the year was admittedly slow and kind of boring. I was focusing too much on the drawing and the story and not enough on coming up with good jokes. As it picks up steam I think it's getting progressively funnier.
